3 Creek Ranch is home to some of the finest private spring creek fly-fishing in the country.   Available only to owners and their guests are three world-class trout streams that flow through the property. Each creek is managed with three goals in mind: 1) to protect their long term ecological integrity, 2) to provide spawning habitat for the native cutthroat trout and 3) to provide a memorable fly fishing experience. All three creeks offer a variety of fly fishing opportunities that will interest beginners and experts alike.

SPRING CREEK

Spring Creek is the largest of the three creeks with about a mile and a half of fishable water. We have divided Spring Creek into two sections. The upper section flows from the northern boundary downstream to the bridge adjacent to the Nature Center. Upper Spring Creek is a classic series of riffles, runs and pools. Strong early to mid-June    Baetis and Pale Morning Dun hatches make this stretch an early season favorite. As is the case with all the spring creeks here, the native fine spotted cutthroat trout call this water home. These are wild and beautiful fish. The average size of the fish is 10-18" but larger fish are occasionally spotted. A major stream enhancement project was completed in the fall of 2005 to provide better holding water and to increase spawning habitat. For many homeowners, Upper Spring Creek is the first piece of water they fish and it continues to be a favorite for them.

The Lower Spring Creek section, which begins at the bridge and flows to the southern end of the property, has been described over the years as "hallowed ground." By far the most technical piece of water on the property, this is the favorite of many fisherman. The water on Lower Spring Creek is bigger, wider and looks like a western spring creek. The summer hatches can be very heavy and the fish on this stunning piece of water are truly amazing.

CODY CREEK

To the west of Spring Creek is Cody Creek, a true western meadow spring creek. A major stream enhancement program was also completed on Cody Creek last fall and the results have been amazing. Bigger, deeper holes improved fish numbers, but more importantly, prime spawning habitat was created and redd (a term used by biologists to describe a spawning bed) counts increased dramatically. We can all be proud to be a part of this success story. Cody Creek holds a great size range of the native cutthroat trout and anglers of all abilities are guaranteed the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful afternoon of fishing within the magnificent backdrop of the Grand Tetons.

BLUE CRANE CREEK

Blue Crane Creek flows through the far western section of the property. The history of this creek goes way back and a few of the well-known spots are even named. The "Board Room" is an amazing piece of water, so named because it's where all the fish go to meet each other.   Just upstream is the Alligator Pool, named for the grassy log that looks like an alligator sitting in the middle of the pool. An additional major stream enhancement project was completed in the fall of 2005 on Blue Crane Creek and we are all very excited with the results. Considerable spawning habitat in the form of fine sized gravels was created with a goal of sustaining long-term spawning activity.
